Learning To Accept Differences
I am not a relationship expert but I can certainly tell you a few things that will help strengthen your union. One piece of wisdom I would like to share with you involves the differences between you and your mate. You MUST learn to accept these differences or your relationship will never survive. Let me break this down for you a bit.
It is nice to find someone who is very similar to you but there are times when you fall for someone and you realise that they are nothing like you. For example, you may have met someone who is a total fitness buff, yet the last time you went into a gym you were in high school. If they are prepared to accept the fact that fitness is not your thing, you have to do the same. This means no walking around feeling inadequate because you cannot bench press hundreds of pounds.
One great thing about love is the fact that it is a wonderful learning experience. Having differences means that there are things that you will be able to teach each other. Sharing like this can make a relationship stronger than it has ever been. This is something I have learned in my own relationship. I am a very good cook (home gourmet), yet my girlfriend is a very basic cook. I don’t put her down when she serves me boxed macaroni and cheese. I appreciate the gesture, eat it and view it as a break from all of the complicated things I like to make.
You may be a wonderful person, but do you really want to be with someone who is just like you? This could be really difficult, especially if you are selfish, hot-tempered or something similar. You will end up butting heads with your mate more often than not. Do you really want to spend a large part of your relationship bickering with someone because both of you are intent on getting the last word? Differences help create a balance in many cases, which means there will be fewer disputes.
I am not suggesting that you head out and look for someone who is the exact opposite of you. What I am saying is that you should find someone who has great qualities that mesh well with yours, and you should try your best to overlook or embrace minor differences. If you cannot do this, there is no way you will ever find a lasting relationship that will make you truly happy.
